CatchTunes Privacy Policy
Effective date: 27 October 2026
1. Summary
CatchTunes collects only what it needs to run its features. We do not sell your data, show ads, or use analytics or tracking cookies. Most features work without storing anything about you. You can delete your data yourself with /deletemydata or on the dashboard's My data page, and you can reach us through the contact form for anything else. The Service is operated by Christopher A. Jones, an individual in Texas, USA.
2. What we collect and why
| What | Details | Why | How long we keep it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tunes (voice playback) | The songs in your server's queue and who queued each one, play history (song, who queued it, when), an activity log of who pressed what (Discord user IDs), and server playlists with who created each playlist and added each song. Server playlists are stored in CatchTunes and can be edited by managers, DJs and the server owner. Playlist imports (a YouTube link, a CSV file or a pasted list) are not kept: the uploaded file or pasted text is read once to find the songs and is not stored, and only the songs that were matched are saved, in the new server playlist | To play music in voice, show the queue and history, and keep the server's playlists | History and activity: 30 days, then deleted. Queue: until the song is played or removed. Server playlists: until deleted or the bot is removed from the server. |
| Server settings | Server ID and the Tunes settings admins choose: voice and player channels, server playlist, DJ-only mode and DJ role, song length and per-person limits, autoplay and starting volume | To run Tunes the way admins set it up | Deleted as soon as the bot is removed from the server |
| Dashboard sign-in | Through Discord sign-in (scopes "identify" and "guilds"): your user ID, username, avatar, and the name, ID and icon of your servers and whether you can manage them | To show and manage your servers | 7 days, or until you sign out. Your Discord access token is never stored |
| Support tickets | When you send a message through the contact form, a ticket is saved with your Discord user ID and username, the topic you chose, the conversation (your message and any replies, from you and from the operator), the operator's private notes on it, and a log of what happened to it (opened, replied to, closed, reopened). The operator is also told by a private Discord message (or, if that fails, in a private channel only the operator can read) | To answer your question or request and keep the conversation in one place | Open tickets are kept until closed. Closed tickets are deleted 90 days after closing, and reopening a ticket restarts that clock. /deletemydata deletes your tickets right away. Notification messages already sent to the operator aren't affected by /deletemydata and are deleted 90 days after they were sent |
| Server logs | Error logs that may include Discord user and server IDs, and web server logs that include IP addresses and browser type | To keep the Service secure and fix problems | 30 days, then deleted |
| Backups | A daily copy of the database | To recover from failures | 14 days |
3. Messages, status and voice
The bot does not read messages in server channels or members' activity status (such as "Listening to Spotify"). It sees the slash commands and buttons you use. If you send the bot a direct message, it answers with a short note about support tickets and does not store the message.
For Tunes, the bot plays audio found on YouTube and fetches lyrics from LRCLIB when someone uses /lyrics. It sends YouTube the search text, the song names from a playlist import and any YouTube links pasted into it, and lyrics lookups send LRCLIB the title, artist, album and length. None of this includes your Discord identity. In a voice channel the bot sends audio, and it does not record or listen to what members say.
CatchTunes does not connect to Spotify. A Spotify playlist can be imported from a CSV file you export yourself (for example with Exportify); that file is handled like any other playlist import above.
4. Public information in servers
Tunes shows who queued each song in the player message, the queue and the history, and server playlists show who added each song. These posts live in the server on Discord.
5. Who we share data with
We do not sell, rent or trade your data, and we do not share it for advertising. Only the operator has access to the database and logs.
- Discord runs the platform the bot works on. Its Privacy Policy covers what Discord itself collects.
- YouTube (Google) receives search and playback requests for the songs Tunes plays, the song names from playlist imports and pasted YouTube links, made from our server. Its policies apply.
- LRCLIB (lrclib.net) receives the title, artist, album and length of the song when someone uses /lyrics. It does not receive your Discord identity from us.
- Bluehost hosts our server and database in the United States.
- Link destinations. Links that open YouTube or other sites take you there, where their own privacy policies apply.
- Legal reasons. We may disclose data if the law requires it, or to protect users, the Service or others from harm or fraud.
6. Cookies
The website uses one cookie, ct_sid, to keep you signed in to the dashboard. It is strictly necessary and expires after 7 days. We use no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.
7. Your choices and rights
- Sign out of the dashboard: the Sign out button
- Delete everything we hold about you, including your support tickets: /deletemydata or the My data page. Notification messages already sent to the operator aren't affected and are deleted 90 days after they were sent. To get a copy, correct something, or delete by request instead, send a request through the contact form. We will answer within 30 days.
- What /deletemydata does to Tunes data: it removes the songs you queued. Your play history and activity entries stay for their 30 days but no longer show your name (they show "a former member"). Songs you added to server playlists stay in the server's playlist, but your name is removed from them.
- Removing the bot from a server deletes that server's settings, Tunes queue, history, activity and server playlists right away.
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California), you may have more rights under local law, including the right to complain to a data protection authority.
8. Legal basis (EU and UK users)
We process data to provide the Service you asked for (contract) and to keep it secure (legitimate interests). Our servers are in the United States, so your data may be handled outside your country.
9. Security
The website uses HTTPS, secure session cookies and protection against cross-site requests. Discord access tokens are never stored. No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell affected users if a breach puts their data at risk, as the law requires.
10. Children
The Service is only for people 13 and older. If you think someone under 13 has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes
We will post any update here and change the effective date. For material changes we will also post a notice on the website or in our support server.
12. Contact
